My intent for this blog is to celebrate the wonder, beauty, magic and humor that IS Early Childhood. Those who share in this profession are touched daily by the innocence of youth and this blog will be my feeble attempt to share some of that innocence and joy with all of you.
In order to maintain full privacy for the students I work with, no names will ever be posted. In the case that names must be used to better illustrate an experience, then fictitious names or alphabet letters will be used.
A bit of background on "our" program: "Our" preschool is part of the local county school district. We are funded via federal, state, and local monies (including tuition from our typically developing students). All school districts are federally mandated to serve children with disabilities starting on their third birthday; though our preschool program does serve tuition-based, typically developing children as well. "Our" preschool program employs a multitude of professionals: CDA credentialed teaching assistants, Special Education Teachers, Speech/Language Pathologist, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and School District Administrators . . . not to mention the world's greatest secretary, custodian, lunch lady and technology support!
I will continually gather "stories" from a variety of sources and classrooms within our building. Some of my blog postings will be personally related as I experienced them and others will be related as they were told to me by various teachers throughout the building.
I work for my local school district as a Special Education teacher. I have the awesome responsibility/privilege of doing all I can to assist in bettering the lives of three, four, and five-year-old little people who present with varying degrees of disabilities (from speech delays to severe impairments). I am also blessed with the opportunity to work with typically developing, tuition based children in this same setting (reverse mainstreaming).
